Who We Are

At BKA, our work is driven and guided by the notion immigrants bring skills and access to global markets, contributing to the social and cultural richness of the community and to our shared economic prosperity. Everyone should feel they belong by making space for and valuing their voices and experiences shaped by their own lived experiences.

We at the BKA Network do not put upon women an unrealistic expectation of perfection -  we talk as openly about flaws and challenges as we do triumphs. Rather than offering a polished snapshot of a final point of success, we share the journey, and the lessons learned on the way. The art of modeling values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors creates a culture where others are inspired to do the same, as a result of one’s example. We seek to accomplish this through community, capacity building and a diverse set of initiatives focused on enhancing leadership development, social capital and a sense of belonging.

We offer professional development opportunities targeting newcomer, repatriate, expatriate, and immigrant women. BKA recognizes that these women in particular, face a multiple of intersecting settlements and integration barriers within their community.

Our Approach

We embrace the unique experiences and cultural perspectives that each member brings to our work. Respect, tolerance, and understanding of others’ backgrounds and beliefs must be exemplified at all times. At BKA we foster a supportive global community of young leaders, partners, and supporters who lift each other up and learn from one another. Within our events, programming, and online community we strive to create an inclusive environment that values and celebrates each member across their identities — including but not limited to their race, ethnicity, religion, culture, country of origin, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, citizenship status, gender identity, sexuality or ability.

In our decision-making process, we offer opportunities for those in our movement to provide input through surveys and steering committees, and welcome feedback on an ongoing basis.
